Therapeutic Areas of Focus

Addiction

Includes the elements of compulsion, craving, consequences, and control. Addictions can be chemical and behavioral. Often addictions do not become a focus until there are external consequences.

Stress

Stress is a natural part of responding to the environment. Therapy can help to improve managing stress well. It can also assist in identifying areas where reducing stress can be helpful. Since stress cannot be eliminated, the focus of therapy is stress management skills and stress reduction.

CPTSD/Trauma

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) is a condition that can develop as a result of chronic (long-term) trauma. Symptoms can include anxiety and repetitive patterns of unhealthy behaviors. Working with CPTSD includes trauma-specific therapy and in-depth cognitive restructuring.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a persistent apprehension, nervousness, and worry. Catastrophic thinking, negative filtering, and personalization are a few of the common thinking errors linked to anxiety. Changes in thinking patterns can often provide relief from the symptoms of anxiety.

Depression

Depression impacts an individual's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors,. It is difficult for an individual to find joy or interest in activities. An overall sense of happiness and well-being can be achieved through therapy.

Divorce

The dissolution of a marriage is a source of distress and grief. Navigating the complex emotions involved can be challenging, The phases of divorce include rebuilding. Therapy will assist in managing well through the process and beginning to empower an individual to reshape their future.

Dual Diagnosis

A dual diagnosis involves having a mental health diagnosis in additional to an substance use disorder or other addiction. Therapy involves working with both individually and addressing the interaction between them.

Self-concept/Self-Esteem

Therapy addresses the concepts of self by focusing on an individual's ideas and beliefs about themselves (concept) while processing the ways a person feels about themselves (esteem). Challenging negative self views and distorted beliefs about self is crucial to esteem building. Valuing oneself through behavioral interventions is also a part of growth.

Interpersonal Conflict

Occurs in multiple situations including work, home, friendships, and family. One goal of therapy is to identify avoidance and fear of conflict. Another goal is to learn how to manage these situations using healthy conflict resolution skills.
